Day 4: Animation Begins!

Day 4 began the process of animating our characters in the scenes the children have created.  The rest of the project will include similar activities as we include narration and audio to our movies.  Here is a little snippet (Youtube video) of the first scene (5 seconds) we put together in the class as a group.

Day 3: Clay Sculpting, Set Design, & Stop Animation

Tuesday 6/24/2014 hosted 9 children who created clay characters, poster sized back drops, and started picture taking for stop animation.  We even started our audio narration of the story!  Very productive day with lots of focus and smiles all around.

Day Two: Clay Sculpting and Set Design

Today we began to create our characters and sets.  Kids got to use their imaginations to create their vision of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

There were about 10 children and 5 parents and 1 grandparent.  Parent involvement is such an important ingredient in the success of this project, and I appreciate the support for the children as well as the project.

One of the challenges I have found with the first week of sessions is that the first session time isn't filling up.  Speaking to some of the parents with kids in that age group, it isn't a convenient time.  I have decided to bring the two groups together and am adapting the classes to accept both age groups at the 3pm session.  This works especially for the parents who have children in both age groups to attend an "all in one" session. We have also adapted to a larger space to accommodate more children per session.  We have a nice group of regular children who are attending and participating.  Next week we will begin to work on our scenes and narration on the movie.

Day 1: Selfie Day!

Today we had "Selfie Day!".  This was an opportunity for the children to get acquainted with the camera's.  The kids had a great time taking pictures of themselves, their friends, and got to select their favorite pictures for the finale event at the Carnegie Library Gallery Show that will be on July 22nd, tentatively.

First we had 2 power-point presentations introducing the project and introducing the equipment.  Then we got into the fun with selfies!  Thank you to the 16 participants that made this a successful day!  The selfies were awesome!

Here is the flyer for the upcoming art work shop project.  The project will be Goldilocks and the Three Bears Stop Animation Movie.  The participants in varying age groups will work to complete the steps to make this movie and have fun creating art in the process.
